As Per National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020), Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University’s (AKTU) new curriculum will include multiple exit options like a diploma, BTech minor degree, and honours degree along with a regular degree with a choice-based credit system, according to vice-chancellor Professor Pradeep Kumar Mishra.
Students can Exit B.Tech Course after completion of 3 years
As per NEP-2020, there would be B.Tech Honours, B.Tech minor, B.Tech regular, and B.Tech that allows students to exit after completion of three years.
AKTU will award an honours degree in BTech for specialization in a particular subject so that it will be easier for the students to get employment.
For instance, a student of computer science may opt for honours with a specialization in one aspect of the subject. In the regular 4-year BTech course, students will get one-year industry experience after the completion of three years.
Flexible entry and exit
Students will also have the option of flexible entry and exit on the course. If a student was unable to complete four years of BTech, for whatever reason, they will have an exit option within three years. These students will be considered for the Bachelor of Vocational Education so they don’t face any issues in the future, VC said.
VC Mishra said it was mandatory to modify the curriculum for the implementation of NEP 2020. The course should focus on the overall development of students.
Bilingual studies and question papers
To help Hindi medium learners easily pursue engineering studies, the university team organized a discussion to teach and prepare quizzes in Hindi and English. Apart from that, it was agreed to revise the BTech program, the VC said.
